The method involves estimating a ratio (R) between a probability for developing a measured acceleration value (a) during a fall and a probability for developing the measured acceleration value during non-fall based on the measured acceleration value. A fall assumption audible signal (f) and the ratio are combined with a relative frequency (HF) of the fall and a relative frequency (HA) of the fall assumption audible signal without the fall. A probability (Pf) for an actual existence of the fall is estimated based on a combination of the audible signal, the ratio and the relative frequencies.
