PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material which has high mechanical strength, heat resistance, and liquid or vapor barrier properties, has better low water absorption properties, chemical resistance, hydrolysis resistance, etc. than a conventional nylon 6-based composite material, has a wider moldable temperature range and better melt moldability than a composite material based on a polyamide resin using a 1, 9-nonanediamine singly as a diamine component, can attain high molecular weight, and can produce a tough molded product. SOLUTION: The composite material includes a polyamide resin and a layered silicate dispersed in the polyamide resin. In the polyamide resin, the dicarboxylic acid component is composed of oxalic acid; the diamine component is composed of a mixture of 1, 9-nonanediamine and 2-methyl-1, 8-octanediamine (hereinafter, referred to as a "C9 diamine mixture") and 1, 6-hexanediamine (hereinafter, referred to as "C6 diamine"); and the molar ratio of the C9 diamine mixture to the C6 diamine is 1:99 to 99:1.
