PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a portable electronic device that can control activation or execution of an application depending on external environment. SOLUTION: The portable electronic device includes: an application holding section holding an application; an activation instruction section for instructing the activation of the specified application held by the application holding section; an application execution section for activating and executing the specified application according to an activation instruction by the activation instruction section; an environment determination section for determining peripheral environment; and an application suppression section that determines whether or not the peripheral environment determined by the environment determination section conforms to the specified application and, when the peripheral environment is determined not to conform to it, suppresses the activation or execution of the specified application.
