<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means that is less apt to be affected by noise and precisely extracting a contour from a photographed image through processings that are not necessary of parameter adjustment. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A program makes a computer execute image reading processing that captures a photographed image, a local area setting processing, a gradient information computation processing and contour extraction processing. In the local area setting processing, the computer designates two or more notable pixels among pixels contained in the photographed image and sets a local area with a predetermined size within the photographed image, by using the position of each notable pixel as a reference. In the gradient information computation processing, the computer uses gradient information of pixel values obtained from a plurality of pixels contained in a local area to obtain an image gradient vector indicating a gradient of the image at the position of each noted pixel.
