[Also in Division B6] A metal foil advanced from a supply-roll 10 to be wound onto a rotating body 14, passes around a series of deflecting and smoothing rollers mounted in a roller frame 20. Between the supply-roll and the point of entry into the roller frame 20, there is maintained a freely hanging portion 12a. This is achieved by driving the supply-roll 10 with a roller 34. which derives its drive via a flexible shaft 38 from one of a pair of nip-rollers 24, 25 driven by the moving foil. Adjustable side guides 30 on a transverse rod 31 registers the foil transversely prior to entering the roller frame 20. In an alternative (Fig. 3) one of the nip-rollers 24 drives an electric generator, the output of which drives an electric motor connected to the roller 34. In an alternative (Fig. 4) both the rollers 24 and 34 drive signal generators, the outputs of which are compared in a controller which in turn controls a motor driving the spindle of the supply-roll 10.</p> |
