The appliance has a fillable steam boiler with an interior space (46) surrounded by delimiting walls (22, 26-30), and an inlet (40) for liquid (74) provided in one of the walls (22). The inlet is arranged relative to a sensor (50) i.e. negative temperature coefficient (NTC) temperature sensor, for detecting a fill level in the boiler such that a liquid stream (72) entering the boiler from the inlet initially strikes a coupling region (54) of the sensor when the inlet releases the liquid into the interior space of the boiler before the liquid is collected in the boiler.
