<p>Provided are an image processing device and a method which can reduce the processing load upon encoding by limiting the number of motion vector calculations when AIF is employed for the motion compensation. In step S11, a motion vector calculation unit selects one filter coefficient which has been calculated and is held in a memory. In step S12, the motion vector calculation unit calculates a motion vector of each macro block of the image to be encoded, by using an interpolation pixel of a fractional accuracy of AIR using the selected and calculated filter coefficient. In step S13, the motion vector calculation unit uses the calculated motion vector to calculate a filter coefficient corresponding to an image to be encoded and making a predicted error to be minimum. The calculated filter coefficient is supplied to a memory and held therein so as to be used in the motion vector calculation of the next image and after. The present invention may be applied to an image encoding device.</p> |
