Since the facility is made up of a number of areas, the method includes a first phase of characterizing the waste from said facility and a second phase of selecting at least one system for treating and determining the provisional streams of associated waste. The first phase comprises at least: a step in which each area undergoes physical characterization (1) and radiological characterization (2); a step in which all the equipment present in the areas undergoes physical characterization (3) and radiological characterization (4) according to the step of characterizing the areas; a step (5) of compiling the physical and radiological characteristics of the equipment, in which step a description of a waste to be produced is associated with the physical and radiological characteristics of each item of equipment; and the second phase involves selecting at least one system for treating and determining the associated provisional streams according to the descriptions of the waste to be produced and the physical and radiological characteristics of the areas.
