PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a burner and an apparatus for manufacturing porous glass capable of improving handleability without being simply damaged and improving dimensional accuracy. SOLUTION: The burner 10 and the apparatus for manufacturing porous glass have metallic gas introducing members 11-17 and similarly metallic gas blowing pipes 19-25 which are separately structured, and a porous glass preform is manufactured by supplying fuel gas and raw material gas from ports 58-65 between the gas blowing pipes 19-26 and depositing porous glass around a glass rod which is used as a starting material.
