<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device, by which proper operability in a horizontal open state of the portable electronic device of which a first housing and a second housing can be vertically and horizontally opened is obtained. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the first housing 20 provided with an operation part 21 and the second housing 30 provided with a display part 31 are put into the vertical open state, by relatively rotating the first housing 20 and the second housing 30, centered about a second connecting shaft 42, from a close state at which the first housing 20 and the second housing are relatively stacked, a connecting housing 40 does not move, since it follows the first housing 20. Meanwhile when the first housing 20 and the second housing 30 are placed in a horizontal open state, by relatively turning the first housing and the second housing 30 centered about a first connecting shaft 41 from the close state, the connecting housing 40 moves, by following the second housing. For this reason, since the connecting housing 40 is lifted up by following the second housing 30 at the horizontal open state, the connecting housing 40 does not project to the operation surface 20a of the first housing, there is no risk of a user's finger interfering with the connecting housing 40 at the horizontal open state, and the operability of a user at the horizontal open state is improved, in comparison with the conventional manner.
