<p>A library unit for mounting storage media in a high-density manner. The library unit includes a housing shelf having a first movement shelf where a plurality of cells for housing the storage media are arranged on a plurality of columns and rows and the cells on each column are moved in the vertical direction as well as a second movement shelf where a plurality of cells for housing the storage media are arranged on a plurality of columns and rows and the cells on each column are moved in the horizontal direction, a drive where the access direction for taking the storage media in and out is the same as that for the housing shelf and which performs record regeneration of the information on the storage media, a carriage section to carry the storage media between the housing shelf and the drive, and a movement control section which moves the cells on a given column of the first movement shelf to the upper side to form a space and then moves the cells on a given column of the second movement shelf to a position where the carriage section is accessible at the formed space in the horizontal direction.</p> |
