PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the loss time due to postponing, and to suppress the fall of first print out time (FPOT) or throughput small, in the case that the printing operation is postponed in an image forming apparatus which is made to put toner of a plurality of colors successively superimposed on an intermediate transfer member for forming full color images. SOLUTION: When performing image developing in a controller part, the estimated image development time which is the time estimated necessary to develop is transmitted to the engine part. The engine part receiving the estimated image development time determines whether or not the image development will be finished by the time when printing operation is started, and if determines it is not finished, the printing operation is postponed. When postponing the printing operation, corresponding to the estimated image developing time, the speed of intermediate transfer member is controlled variably, thereby the loss time relating to postponing of the printing operation can be reduced.
