PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass substrate for a magnetic disk by which working quality of an end surface is enhanced when the glass substrate for the magnetic disk is manufactured by cutting out a glass disk from a plate like glass can be enhanced and yield can be heightened. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the glass substrate for the magnetic disk, a cutting line describing a curve forming a nearly peripheral edge of a region to be the glass substrate for the magnetic disk is formed nearly straightly in a plate thickness direction of the plate like glass to one principal surface of the plate like glass, then the cutting line is advanced, the plate like glass is immersed in a solution having an etching action to glass, and the plate like glass is parted along the cutting line to cut out the disk like glass substrate.
