The method involves driving a cooling fan (17) by a lever-operated hydraulic drive (16), in which the speed is controlled by a control device (19), for cooling a lever and/or a coolant circuit of an internal combustion engine (11) and a traction drive device propelled by the engine. The speed of the cooling fan is reduced during peak load i.e. acceleration phase, of traction drive device. The speed of the cooling fan is not reduced under a minimum value dependent on the temperature of traction drive device and/or temperature of the coolant circuit. An independent claim is also included for a mobile work machine comprising a cooling fan.
