<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording head capable of sufficiently absorbing a leaked magnetic field by a shield, and a storage device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording head 44, a recording magnetic field leaks from the tip piece 45a of a truncated pyramid shape during writing of information. In this case, the leaked magnetic field leaks from the tip piece 45a to a shield 46. The leaked magnetic field is guided to the magnetic layer 56 of the shield 46. The shield 46 includes a laminate member constituted of the magnetic layer 56 and a nonmagnetic layer 57 stacked in a direction orthogonal to a medium opposite surface 29, and hence orientation of magnetization is established in an in-plane direction parallel to the medium opposite surface 29 in the magnetic layer 56. As a result, the generation of a leaked magnetic field, more specifically an erasing magnetic field, from the medium opposite surface 29 is prevented. For example, side erasing is prevented. Simultaneously, a steep gradient is established in the recording magnetic field leaked from the tip of the tip piece 45a. Resolution of the recording magnetic field is improved.
