<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an irradiation direction variable strobe apparatus for accurately and automatically setting the irradiation direction of illumination light with respect to an object, according to the distance of the object from a camera. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The irradiation direction variable strobe apparatus 1 includes: a light emitting tube 7 which is rotatably incorporated and arranged so as to change the direction of a luminous flux emitted from a light emitting window 5; a light emitting part 6 which is configured integrally with a reflecting mirror 8; a drive part 9 which rotates and drives the light emitting part 6; an angle detecting part 10 which outputs the actual rotation angle signal of the light emitting part 6 by the drive part 9; and a control part which takes in subject distance information obtained by a range-finding sensor 33 mounted in a camera 31 and produces a rotation angle signal by using a preset distance and rotation angle information, to transmit the produced rotation angle signal to the drive part 9 and change the rotation angle of the light emitting part 6 and an adjustment angle signal by using the actual rotation angle signal from the angle detecting part 10, to transmit the produced adjustment angle signal to the drive part 9 and automatically adjust the rotation angle of the light emitting part 6.
