<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element having an excellent electric characteristic and a high heat dissipation effect, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same, a lighting system, a surface light source, and a display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element has a laminate including the first transparent electrode, an auxiliary electrode provided adjacently to the first electrode, the second electrode, and a light emitting layer arranged between the first electrode and the second electrode, a support substrate provided with the laminate, a sealing substrate provided to cover the laminate from an opposite side opposite to a support substrate side of the laminate, and a heat radiation layer provided on at least one surface of the support substrate, or on at least one surface of the sealing substrate, and having high heat radiation performance of 0.70 or more of heat radiation rate, an electric resistance value of the auxiliary electrode is lower than an electric resistance value of the first electrode, and the auxiliary electrode has the first frame-shaped auxiliary electrode, and the second auxiliary electrode arranged within a frame of the first auxiliary electrode, electrically connected to the first auxiliary electrode, and having a wire width narrower than that of the first auxiliary electrode.
