PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that has an image carrier 4 and a charging roller 5 rotated in contact with the image carrier, the apparatus being configured to prevent transverse line appearing in the image in a cycle of the charging roller. SOLUTION: Before driving of the image carrier starts, a bias having the same polarity as that of an image forming bias is applied between the charging roller and the image carrier. The time of application of the bias varies with the accumulated time of rotation of the image carrier or the time of making the driving of the image carrier inactive. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
