A grease composition comprises a polysiloxane lubricating oil and a grease-forming quantity, e.g.5-50 wt. per cent of one or more perylimid compounds represented by one of the general formulae: and where the R's represent hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl, anthraquinyl, alkoxyaryl, haloaryl or aminoaryl, several such compounds being specified. Polymethyl phenylsiloxane is the preferred oil, and the compositions may contain up to 10 wt. per cent of a colloidal silica. Other optional additives mentioned are alumina hydrate, barium sulphate, clay, calcium acetate, calcium carbonate and molybdenum disulphide.ALSO:A grease comprises an oil of lubricating viscosity and a grease-forming quantity, e.g. 5-50 wt. per cent, of one or more perylimid compounds represented by one of the general formulae and where the R's represent hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl, anthraquinyl, alkoxyaryl, haloaryl, or aminoaryl. Several typical perylimid compounds are mentioned. The lubricating oil may be mineral or synthetic, synthetic oils mentioned including polypropylene, polypropylene glycol, trimethylol propane esters, neopentyl and pentaerythritol esters, di-(2-ethylhexyl) sebacate and adipate, dibutyl phthalate, polyethylene glycol di-(2-ethylhexoate), fluorocarbons, silicate esters, silanes, esters of phosphorus acids, liquid ureas, ferrocene derivatives, hydrogenated mineral oils, polyphenyls, siloxanes and polysiloxanes (e.g. polymethylphenylsiloxane) and polyphenyl ethers (e.g. m-bis-(m-phenoxyphenoxy) benzene). Up to 10% of colloidal silica may be present, and other additives mentioned are alumina hydrate, barium sulphate, clay, calcium acetate, calcium carbonate and molybdenum disulphide.
