Nicotinamide dinucleotide is obtained by culturing Brevibacterium ammoniagenes under aerobic conditions in an aqueous nutrient medium modified by the addition of nicotinic acid and/or nicotinic acid amide with or without adenine and/or a derivative thereof. The adenine derivative may be its riboside or ribotide. The temperature is 20-40 DEG C. and the pH 5.5-9.0. The Brevibacterium ammoniagenes may be those with American type Culture Collection numbers 6871, 6872, 15750, 15751.
