<p>A plunger used to manufacture glass containers (unit 1) is usually made from cast iron or steel. To protect it from high temperature abrasion, the molten glass contact (unit 2) is protected by applying a coating to the external surface of the plunger. The coating material is a blend of 62% CoBSiCr self-fluxing alloy and 38% WC-12Co. The tungsten carbide is supported by the matrix of self-fluxing alloy. The cobalt-based self-fluxing alloy prevents the risk of nickel inclusions in the glass.</p> |
