The vapor extraction unit has a water shield with a plate shaped water shield element (1) made up of glass or glass-type material. A scratch-proof hard layer is laid on water shield element. The water shield element has a splitter guard layer that is a foil, particularly a polycarbonate foil or polyester foil. The splitter guard layer is glued together with the water shield element, where bonding agent is an acrylate glue layer. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a vapor extraction unit.
