A stator vane assembly 1 comprises a preformed vane 4 supported by radially inner and outer rings 2, 3, the vane being able to move relative to at least one of the rings to accommodate radial expansion / contraction of the support rings. The stator vane may be an inlet guide vane in a gas turbine engine, and the guide vane preferably engages fixed locating elements on the support rings with an interference-fit. Ideally, the guide vane is made from sheet metal, and has an open end (see figure 4) enabling it to be opened, and subsequently clipped onto the upper and lower locating elements on the stator support bands. A plug may be provided for the trailing edge of the vane. The locating elements may comprise a cooling port / perforated tube to enable coolant to enter the vane. The stator blade may have cooling holes provided.
