<p>A map distance calculator including a linear scale that to measure a specified distance on a map such as, for example, a scaled map of a golf course. The map distance calculator includes a double logarithmic scale that can be moved relative to the linear scale to easily calibrate the calculator 40 to a scaled map. The linear scale is printed on a substantially planar base member in the form of a rectangular sleeve member. A first part of the double logarithmic scale is printed on a sliding member that is slidably coupled to the sleeve member. The sleeve member is formed with an elongate window in its upper face extending adjacent to and parallel with the linear scale. A second part of the double logarithmic scale is printed along an edge of the window. The map distance calculator can be used on a map with a unique scale and subsequently used to directly read off the actual distance.</p> |
