The present invention makes use of the Brayton and Stirling cycles for generating energy in the form of rotating motion. An engine includes a compressor, a regenerator, a heater, a turbine, a cooler and a vortex tube. The cycle starts when gas is passed through the vortex tube, where the flow is divided into two directions. The first being a high temperature outlet, through which the gas flows towards the regenerator where a part of the thermal energy that was not used in the previous cycle is deposited. The fluid, after passing through the regenerator, is led to a cooler, which may be a heat exchanger, and then led to the second outlet of the vortex tube, which is at low temperature. The gas is subsequently passed through a compressor where the pressure is raised at a constant temperature. The gas is preheated upon flowing through the regenerator, and heated within the heater using solar energy, where the pressure thereof is increased and used to spin a turbine where the original pre ssure level is re-established. The rotating motion of the turbine provides mechanical energy for actuating a load, either an electric generator or any other type of mechanism. The gas starts the aforementioned cycle, upon being introduced into the vortex tube, after flowing through the turbine.
