APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR LOSSLESS CODING AND DECODING

PURPOSE: A lossless encoding/decoding apparatus and a method thereof are provided to use an arithmetic encoding method and a Huffman encoding method without overhead, thereby increasing efficiency of a lossless encoding process of an audio signal. CONSTITUTION: M reserved bits are saved in a bit stream(S610). One or more symbols are selected among consecutive symbols(S620). If the first encoding method is selected for the selected one or more symbols, the number of the reserved bits is compared with M. If the number of the reserved bits is smaller than M, the reserved bit is added to the bit stream. If the reserved bit remains in the bit stream, the reserved bit is successively replaced with an arithmetic encoding bit(S661,S662).
