<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display, capable of preventing a phenomenon that screen brightness of the liquid crystal display is reduced by the wavelength dispersion characteristics specific to optical structure which constitutes a panel, and the contrast ratio is lowered and having reduced dispersion characteristics to wide-band visible light. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display that includes a polarizing plate, placed on an outer side opposite to a liquid crystal layer, on at least one substrate and a quarter-wave retardation plate positioned between the substrate and the polarizing plate and composed of two retardation films including a half-wave retardation film and a quarter-wave retardation film associated with a specified visible ray wavelength; the slow axis of a half-wave film which is adjacent to the polarizing plate forms an angle of Θ1 with a transmission axis of the polarizing plate and that of a quarter-wave film which is adjacent to the substrate, defined by an angle of Θ2 and satisfying Θ2=2(Θ1)-45°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
