PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which is inexpensive and space-saving by making a small motor enable to satisfy rotation rates from a low rate to a high rate of a drum. SOLUTION: In a situation that the rotation rate is beyond the rotation rate at which laundry sticking to the inner circumference wall of a drum 3, the rotation system is switched from a first mode, in which the connection of input and output of a reduction gear unit 18 is released in a condition that the rotation of a fixed gear 23 is fixed, to a second mode in which the connection of input and output of the reduction gear unit 18 is released in a condition that fixing of the rotation of a fixed gear 23 is released, and a third mode in which the input and output of the reduction gear unit 18 is connected in a condition that fixing of the rotation of a fixed gear 23 is released, in this order.
