PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal complex usable as a gas adsorber having excellent gas-adsorbing characteristics, a gas-occluding material having a large effective occlusion capacity, and a gas-separating material having excellent gas-separating properties and a large adsorption capacity. SOLUTION: The metal complex comprises 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, at least one kind of a metal selected from chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, iron, ruthenium, cobalt, rhodium, nickel, palladium, copper, zinc and cadmium, and a bidentate ligand (I) represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>are the same or different and each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may have a substituent, or a halogen atom, or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>, and R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may form an alkylene group, an oxyalkylene group or an alkenylene group which may have a substituent in combination; n is 1 or 2; R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>7</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are the same or different, and each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group which may have a substituent, or a halogen atom, or R<SP>5</SP>and R<SP>6</SP>, and R<SP>7</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>may form an alkylene group, an oxyalkylene group or an alkenylene group in combination).
