<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform initialization according to the state of an optical write-in type display medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This control device determines the state of the display medium by reading medium information, and determines the mode of initialization. The control device determines whether the display element of the display medium is in the normal state or property decrease state based on the elapsed time since performing a strong reset (initialization which consumes power relatively high) (Step S54), the ambient temperature, and the time under the temperature (Step S57).
