<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter substrate having an optical compensation function, which eliminates phase difference generated in a multicolor liquid crystal display, is easily manufactured with high quality, and prevents alignment defects and pixel defects by forming uniformly a retardation film. <P>SOLUTION: This color filter substrate includes at least: (a) a black matrix partitioned in a grid pattern on the substrate; (b) a retardation layer with a crystalline compound cured by heat or light in a section of the black matrix; (c) an alignment film layer under the retardation layer; and (d) a color filter on the retardation layer. (A)/(B)<1.0 is satisfied where (A) represent a surface area of a black matrix upper part, and (B) represents a contact area between a black matrix base part and the substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
