<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image encoding device capable of suppressing the deterioration of subjective image quality without increasing the amount of codes. <P>SOLUTION: In the image encoding device, an input image composed of a plurality of pixels is divided into a plurality of processing units constituted of a predetermined number of pixels and arranged in a matrix shape, a borderline of a pair of processing units neighboring in a first direction is defined as a dividing position candidate, respectively, the input image is divided into a plurality of sets each constituted of a plurality of processing units by dividing the input image at a plurality of predetermined dividing position candidates among a plurality of dividing position candidates, and an encoder performs encoding for each of the plurality of sets. The image encoding device includes: a division determining section for selecting which of the plurality of dividing position candidates is selected for determining the division of the set from the viewpoint of subjective image quality; and a control section for controlling the encoder so as to perform encoding on the basis of the set. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
