<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device for shifting from a state of reading information recorded in one layer to the state of reading information recorded in the other layer even when interlayer offset occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the level of a focus error signal reaches a kick start threshold value KS or more, a control unit instructs a driving pulse generation circuit to generate a kick pulse. When the level of the focus error signal becomes equal to or less than a kick stop threshold value KE1 (KE2 during minus direction adjustment), the control unit instructs the driving pulse generation circuit to stop the kick pulse. When the level of the focus error signal becomes equal to or less than a brake start threshold value BS1 (BS2 during plus direction adjustment), the control unit instructs the driving pulse generation circuit to generate a brake pulse. When the level of the focus error signal becomes equal to or more than a brake end threshold value BE, the control unit instructs the driving pulse generation circuit to stop the brake pulse.
