METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DECODING MOVING IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently code a moving image having luminance changing timewise, such as fade and dissolving images.

SOLUTION: Variable length decoding equipment 303 decodes coding data 300. The coding data includes: a predictive error signal indicating an error of a predictive image signal to a moving image signal having a luminance signal and two color difference signals; motion vector information 414; and index information 415 indicating a combination of at least one reference image number and a predictive parameter prepared in advance for each of the luminance signal and the two prepared color difference signals. A frame memory/predictive image generator 308 generates a predictive image signal 412 according to the reference image number of the combination indicated by the decoded index information and the predictive parameter, and uses the predictive error signal and the predictive image signal to generate a reproduction moving image signal.
