<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve oil temperature estimation accuracy without increasing the number of components while reducing computing loads when estimating the oil temperature of an engine. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An initial oil temperature estimation means 32 is so configured that when cooling water temperature in stopping WT_stop as cooling water temperature TW when the engine 12 is stopped is compared with oil temperature in stopping OT_stop as oil temperature OT when the engine 12 is stopped and the oil temperature in stopping OT_stop is lower than the cooling water temperature in stopping WT_stop, the oil temperature in stopping OT_stop is used as initial oil temperature OT_0, and when the cooling water temperature in stopping WT_stop is lower than the oil temperature in stopping OT_stop, cooling water temperature in starting WT_start as cooling water temperature TW when the engine 12 is started is used as the initial oil temperature OT_0.
