<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dichroic composite metal nanorod having a uniform size, exhibiting less light scattering, and being excellent in heat resistance and oxidation resistance, to provide a composite metal nanorod-containing composition, and to provide a polarization material. <P>SOLUTION: The composite metal nanorod contains at least two metals and has a core structure obtained by covering a core nanorod with the shell 2. The composite metal nanorod has an equivalent-volume-sphere radius of 15 nm or smaller and has an aspect ratio of 1.1 to 10.
