<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a both-side mode and a sort mode by effectively using a capacity of a storage device for large capacity image data. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has a preliminarily installed built-in storage means storing image data stored in a memory, one or more removable external storage means storing the image data, and an image compression saving means compressing and saving the image data in either storage means by referring to the free capacities of the built-in storage means and the external storage means.
