<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary tool for a mechanical splice that facilitates inserting an optical fiber into a mechanical splice. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the auxiliary tool for the mechanical splice, a first positioning recess 5 for positioning the mechanical splice and a guide part 6 which guides an optical fiber of an optical fiber cord to an optical fiber insertion port that is situated at both ends of the mechanical splice positioned in the first positioning recess 5 are provided on the upper surface 4a of a mechanical splice placing part 4 on which the mechanical splice is placed.
