<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a top cover from being closed in the state where a member to be mounted in an apparatus body is not mounted. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with: the apparatus body 11 which is provided with an aperture on a top face; the top cover 161 which seals the aperture and which can be opened and closed; an image forming section 12 which is accommodated in the apparatus body 11; a toner container 138 which is mounted on the top face side inside the apparatus body 11 and to which an RFID tag 30 storing management information is mounted; a reader/writer 80 which communicates with the RFID tag 30; and a substrate holder 20 whose posture is changed between an operation posture and a retraction posture.
