<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image more suitable for a photographic subject, in an imaging device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There is provided an imaging device equipped with an imaging elements comprising a large number of first and second light-sensitive elements which can be controlled to be driven independently from each other and disposed in a predetermined arrangement. In the imaging device, image signals are obtained on the basis of outputs from the first and/or second light-sensitive elements to recognize a scene of a photographic subject based on the image signals obtained and obtain field information. A driving mode is selected based on the obtained scene of the photographic subject and field information.
