<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave processing apparatus capable of preventing heating operation, in a state without an object to be heated laid therein. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The microwave processing apparatus is provided with an oscillating portion 2; a power amplifier 3; a heating chamber 6 storing an object to be heated 7; a power supply portion 5; arranged inside on the wall surface of the heating chamber 6 and emitting and supplying microwaves output and transmitted thereto from a microwave generation portion to the heating chamber 6; and a power detection portion 4 detecting power reflected from the power supply portion 5 to the power amplifier 3. A control portion 8 stores the frequency characteristics of the reflected power, when the object to be heated 7 is not laid in the apparatus and determines whether the object to be heated 7 is laid in the heating chamber, by comparing the detected value and the stored value of the reflected power to prevent heating operation without the object to be heated 7 laid in the heating chamber; damages to the microwave processing apparatus are prevented.
