<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has a good running property, and allows higher-density recording. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium includes at least a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic support. The measured dynamic friction coefficient of a surface on the magnetic layer side of the magnetic recording medium is 0.5 or more when a relative speed between the magnetic recording medium and a sliding member of a magnetic head is 1 m/s.
