<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image estimating apparatus for improving reliability of estimation, an image estimating method, an image forming apparatus, and a diagnostic method of an image forming apparatus. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There is provided the image estimating apparatus characterized by including: a pre-processing part for preparing one-dimensional profile concerning brightness from image data; a frequency analysis part for frequency analyzing the one dimensional profile; a sense conversion part for performing weighting conversion in response to sensitivity characteristics of view with respect to the frequency analyzed image information; estimation object extraction part for restricting signal intensity other than the estimation object by performing coefficient processing with respect to the image information; and estimation processing part for calculating an estimated value from the image information subjected to the coefficient processing.
