<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately set a sample-hold phase of image signal output by changing the sample-hold phase supplied to a sample hold circuit in accordance with output pixels of a CMOS image sensor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This method of adjusting sample-hold pulse timing of an image reader includes: the CMOS image sensor for outputting signals of a plurality of pixels; the sample-hold circuit for subjecting a signal from the CMOS sensor to sample-hold; a pulse generation circuit for supplying a sample-hold pulse to the sample-hold circuit; and a phase adjustment means to adjust the phase of the sample-hold pulse supplied to the sample-hold circuit to timing corresponding to the characteristic of an output signal corresponding to the position of a pixel of the CMOS sensor.
