<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheelchair, which is easy to operate, and safe to get on and off. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The wheelchair 2 is provided with wheels 8, a seat belt 16, a wire 46, and a rotation prohibiting mechanism 14. The wire 46 is connected to the seat belt 16. When the seat belt 16 is not worn, the rotation prohibiting mechanism 14 prohibits rotation of the wheels 8. As the seat belt 16 is worn, the wire 46 is pulled. As the wire 46 is pulled, rotation prohibition to the wheels 8 is canceled. Preferably, the rotation prohibiting mechanism 14 of the wheelchair 2 is provided with an arm 38 and an energization member. The rotation prohibiting mechanism 14 is composed in such a way that rotation of the wheels 8 is prohibited when the arm 38 is moved in one direction, and that rotation prohibition to the wheels 8 is canceled when the arm 38 is moved in the other direction.
