PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical interference thin film capable of giving lacquering feeling deep peculiar color tone to the appearance color of various products. SOLUTION: A metal layer L1 is formed on a base substrate 3 and an interference thin film layer Ls formed by laminating thin film layers L2-L8 each having different refractive index (n) is provided thereon. The transparent protective layer L9 is formed on the surface of the interference thin film layer Ls. The appearance color having the peculiar color tone is obtained because the interference thin film layer Ls gives intensity modulation with wavelength dependency to reflected light and the amount of the reflected light is suppressed by the light absorption provided in the thin film layers L2, L4, L8. When the complex refractive index N of the thin film layers L2, L4, L8 is defined by [N=n-ik] using the refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k) and imaginary number (i), [1.36≤n≤3.5] and 0.1≤k≤6 are satisfied.
