PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device capable of accurately estimating the exhaust heat quantity of an engine and of controlling the engine in such a manner that the exhaust and the fuel economy are improved under various engine operating conditions using the accurate estimated value of exhaust heat quantity.

SOLUTION: This engine control device includes: an exhaust gas flow sensor for directly detecting the exhaust gas flow discharged from the engine; an exhaust gas temperature estimating means for detecting or estimating the temperature of the exhaust gas discharged from the engine; and an exhaust heat quantity-estimating means for estimating the heat quantity of the exhaust gas discharged from the engine on the basis of the output of the exhaust gas flow sensor and the output of the exhaust gas temperature-estimating means.
