<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display in which nap of rubbing cloth is made to reach even the lower-side area of a step part of an alignment film. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the liquid crystal display 1 includes: a stage of forming alignment films 17 (23) on surfaces of a TFT substrate 7 and an opposite substrate 19 respectively; a stage of performing rubbing processing on the alignment films 17 (23) using rubbing cloth 27 having three nap lengths (long nap 27a, intermediate nap 27b, and short nap 27c) when step portions 17a (23a) are formed at parts of surfaces of the alignment films 17 (23); and a stage of charging liquid crystal 25 between the alignment films 17 (23) on the TFT substrate 7 and opposite substrate 19 which have been subjected to the rubbing processing.
