<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp having a sealing part without the use of frit glass which causes to reduce occurrence of breakage or leak of a translucent airtight vessel, and to provide a lighting device equipped with the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The high-pressure discharge lamp includes a translucent airtight vessel 1 having a surrounding part 1a with a discharge space formed inside, and a small-diameter cylinder part 1b integrated with the surrounding part to be communicated with its inside and at least with a part to be sealed formed of polycrystalline ceramics as a main component, with a sealing part SP having a ceramics fusion part 4 and an inorganic substance layer 5 with a lower melting point than ceramics coated on an outer surface of the ceramics fusion part formed on the part to be sealed, a current introducing conductor 3 airtightly penetrating the sealing part of the translucent airtight vessel to be introduced inside the translucent airtight vessel, an electrode 2 arranged at a chip part of the current introducing conductor and facing a discharge space part of the translucent airtight vessel, and an ionized medium sealed in the translucent airtight vessel.
