<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs required by a signal quality recovery function section in an optical repeater for relaying a light signal in an optical transmission network. <P>SOLUTION: The optical repeater includes: a wavelength selection switch that includes an input port for receiving signal light from a first optical transmission network, a plurality of output ports, and a function for outputting the signal light of a wavelength arbitrarily selected from a plurality of wavelengths included in the signal light from an optional output port; a wavelength multiplexing means that includes a plurality of input ports and outputs the signal light, where the signal light input into each of the plurality of input ports is wavelength-multiplexed, to a second optical transmission network; and at least one signal quality recovery means connected between the output port of the wavelength selection switch and the input port of the wavelength multiplexing means.
